Baby Savannah is Here!

Our day finally came to see our sweet Savannah! We can truly say prayers and priesthood blessings are answered. Savannah was born on May 3rd at 10:22am, 5lbs 15oz and 17 1/2 inches long. When she entered into this world, I heard that sweet little baby cry you always want to hear. Then the nurse said she was having trouble breathing, so they needed to take her right away to see what was causing her to breath so rapidly. I got to hold her for a few seconds before they took her away. As I got to the mother and baby room, the doctor came in and told us that she has a premature lung and put her on a c-pak(if that's how you spell it) to see if that would help her the lung and breath better. By evening time the c-pak hadn't help so they were going to give her some medicine through a tube that is put down her throat. I can't remember what the medicine is called but it is to help the lung expand. The medicine didn't work, so the nurse in the NICU came and told me that they were taking to a specialist down at Utah Valley Hospital to see if she needed to be transported to Utah Valley Hospital to be put on a machine. I was thinking having my baby be in another hospital and I recovering at American Fork Hospital, I wouldn't be able to see her until I was released in four days. But the specialist advised to try the medicine one more time to see if it will work. We all had prayers in our hearts for Savannah. They performed the medicine one more time and it seemed to help. They were going to keep her longer to make sure it was helping. Ben called my oldest brother Todd if he could come give a priesthood blessing to Savannah. By the morning she was off the c-pak and her breathing improved, but still needed to be in the NICU with the ivy to keep her hydrated. The normal breathing for a new born is 30-60 breaths and hers would go up to 75, but by Wednesday her breathing was steady and where it needed to be. The doctors were thinking she would need to stay a couple extra days after I would be released on Thursday. I was thinking what would I do with my kids and how would I get there since I can't drive for two weeks. My great family of course offered their help. I started to try nursing on Tuesday and she didn't seem to interested for all that she has gone through. For her to come home with me she needed to start nursing and they needed to take the ivy out and make sure her blood sugar was normal. By Thursday morning she was ready to eat, they took the ivy out that morning and she ate and ate. Her blood sugar was normal and the nurse in the NICU didn't see why she needed to be her any longer, so she called the doctor and he said it was fine to release Savannah. Thursday at 7:30pm we were able to take her home, but had a few weight follow-ups were needed to make sure she was gaining weight. Our prayers were answered and the Lord was with us every step of the way. This experience reminds me to always go to the Lord for everything and I know he will answer our prayers and will be with us always. I'm grateful for a wonderful family who is always there and always wanting to help.
